Service Opportunity
Tuesday, October 14th we will have a lunchtime service project. We will be stuffing Blessing Bags with food items for distribution at Operation C.A.R.E. Jenny Blaser-Kay is asking for monetary donations to purchase the items needed. Please consider bringing some cash or a check to Rotary to help with the expense.
We have inducted several new members into our club and have more that are pending induction. Please make sure to take time to introduce yourself and make them feel welcomed.
District 5770 Training was cancelled due to lack of registration. Look for more training opportunities in the spring.
In October, we will be volunteering at the Altus High School concession stand during a Friday night football game. Please contact Steve to volunteer.

September 16, 2025 Program
Our program was from Joe Buchanan and ended with a personal challenge to each Rotarian.
Joe, a retired fire chief and rancher, is a proud fourth-generation Oklahoman who recently shared his heartfelt memories of life in small-town Altus with our Rotary club. Growing up in Altus, Joe recalled a close-knit community where everyone knew each other’s names and parents, making it hard for a young boy to get away with much. He fondly described Main Street and its welcoming business owners, highlighting the kindness that shaped his childhood.
Joe also reflected on his experiences within Altus’s agricultural community, emphasizing the valuable lessons he learned working alongside farmers and ranchers. To him, every relationship he formed was like a slice of life’s pie. Joe left everyone with a thoughtful message: recognize those who are part of your own pie—and, just as importantly, be a piece of someone else’s.
Though Tim Murphy wasn’t born in Altus, he has been an Altusian at heart since 1975. With a mother from the area and a father who was retired military, Altus has been home for most of his life. Tim graduated from Altus High School in 1980, laying the foundation for a strong connection to the community.
Joining the Altus Police Department in 1983, Tim dedicated 25 years to serving and protecting the city before retiring. Even then, his commitment continued with three years as an armed Entry Installation Controller at Altus Air Force Base. In 2011, the city recognized his devotion by electing him Chief of Police.
Tim and his wife, Gloria, have a son, Jason, who lives in McKinney, Texas. Tim's life reflects the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self,” setting a powerful example for the entire Altus community.
Last week, Danna Robinson and her team from Cattlemens Bank hosted an informative session focused on spotting and avoiding scams and fraudulent activities. Their presentation highlighted common tactics used by scammers, such as phishing emails, fake calls pretending to be from banks, and suspicious links that can steal personal information.
Danna shared practical tips to stay safe, including verifying the identity of anyone requesting sensitive information, avoiding clicking on unexpected links, and regularly monitoring bank statements for unusual activity. She emphasized that banks will never ask for passwords or PINs over the phone or email.
Scammers are becoming more skilled and it is important to keep a close eye on your credit card and bank card charges.
Our Rotarian of the Day last week was Danna Robinson, a dedicated leader from Hollis, Oklahoma. Married to Mark Robinson, Danna is a proud mother of two daughters, Morgan and Charlie. Her career at Cattlemens Bank (formerly Stockmans) began in 2001, and she became its 7th president before stepping into the role of CEO in 2023. Despite a busy professional life, Danna always finds time for family, supporting her daughters’ many activities with enthusiasm.
Active in her community, she participates in fundraising efforts for her daughters’ school, FFA, and 4-H groups. Though her schedule and commute to Altus limit her attendance at Rotary events, Danna’s “person of action” spirit shines through in everything she does. Her commitment to service, family, and friends truly exemplifies the heart of a Rotarian.
