Sometimes I have to become a real internet sleuth to find information about our Rotarian of the Day. Please let me know if anything is incorrect. If you're a future ROTD and you want to share your details with me, just email them to debra.valerio@gmail.com.
We announced at our meeting on the 14th that this month Tal Oden celebrates 73 years of service to the Altus Rotary. The button below has some interesting facts about 1952, the year Tal joined.

Last Week's Program
Zelda Sullivan, representing Our Blood Institute (OBI), delivered an educational presentation on the significance and simplicity of donating blood. Zelda informed us that the Oklahoma Blood Institute has expanded its reach beyond Oklahoma to include Coffee Memorial in Amarillo, parts of northern Texas, and Arkansas, hence the name change. OBI is currently the sixth largest non-profit organization in the nation.
Every two seconds, someone requires blood; although 62% of the population is eligible to donate, only 3% do.
Individuals with many medical conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, can still donate blood, provided their condition is well-managed. Many previous restrictions that prevented people from donating have been lifted.
The secret to a successful blood donation is preparation. In the days leading up to the donation, it is recommended to consume iron-rich foods and stay hydrated.
Whole blood donations are the most common form of donation, involving the donation of a pint of blood in a process that lasts approximately an hour. This donation can potentially save up to three lives and can be repeated every 56 days, with the shelf life of whole blood being 42 days.
