Last Week's Program
I was sorry to miss last week's program with Clayton Keck. I am sure it was both fun and informative. I have no first-hand notes to update with but here are some things I found on good ol' Google!

The Masters Tournament, which takes place at Augusta National Golf Club, is a respected golf event packed with tradition. It was started by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts back in 1934 and is known for its unique customs, like the green jacket for the champ and the Champions Dinner.

A bit of history:

Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts created the Masters to showcase golf. At first, it was called the Augusta National Invitation Tournament, but in 1939, they changed the name to the Masters.

Horton Smith was the first winner in 1934.

Even though it’s not labeled a championship for any specific title, the Masters is considered one of the four big golf tournaments, along with the U.S. Open, The Open (British Open), and the PGA Championship.

Some cool traditions of the Masters:

The famous green jacket is given to the winner, who gets to wear it for a year before returning it to the clubhouse.

There's a special dinner hosted by the previous year's champ, where past winners come together for a fun night. Past winners also start the tournament by hitting ceremonial tee shots.

During practice rounds, golfers try to skip balls across the pond on the par-3 16th hole.

Pimento Cheese Sandwiches are a local favorite and a must-try at the tournament.

There's a Par 3 Contest that happens on the Wednesday before the tournament, featuring nine holes.

Fans at the tournament are called patrons, which is a term the organizers use. Patrons can bring their own chairs and claim a spot to catch all the action, which adds to the unique vibe.

Last Week's Rotarian of the Day

This week, we are thrilled to introduce Dr. Hannah Henry-Keck, a proud native of Altus, Oklahoma. A graduate of Altus High School and the University of Oklahoma, Hannah has returned to her roots to practice dentistry in her family’s practice. Recently married to Clayton Keck, she is embracing both her professional and personal life with enthusiasm.

As a dentistry practitioner, Hannah leads a busy life, yet she always finds time to give back to her community. She serves as an Honorary Commander for the Altus Air Force Base 97th Operational Medical Readiness Squadron, a prestigious role held by local leaders and community members committed to supporting the Air Force and its personnel.

Hannah’s dedication to her community is evident in her selfless contributions to various projects. She is a strong supporter of Operation CARE and is an active volunteer at First Methodist Church, where she lends her time and talents to help those in need.

For the past three years, Hannah has been a valued member of the Rotary Club. Her “service above self” spirit shines through in the time-consuming roles she has taken on. Notably, she has accepted the important position of coordinator for our Santa Connection fundraiser, a significant event for our club. This initiative not only raises funds for our scholarship program but also brings joy to young children who receive a special call from Santa. Hannah expertly manages the logistics, securing participants, volunteers, and the event location, all while handling the responsibilities with grace and efficiency.

While Hannah’s busy schedule may prevent her from attending every weekly meeting, her presence is always felt when she is there. She brings a sense of joy and positivity that uplifts the room, making her a cherished addition to our club.

Thank you, Dr. Hannah Henry-Keck, for your unwavering commitment to service and your vibrant spirit. We are truly blessed to have you as part of our Rotary family!
