AN ALTUS AFFAIR 2025

What a fun night at this year's An Altus Affair! The event featured delicious food, a fantastic magician, and priceless opportunities for fellowship among attendees.

A special thank you goes to our committee members: Emily Smith, Rachel Beckner, Kathy Darby, Monica Taylor, Krystal Martin, and Jenny Blaser-Kay. Additionally, a HUGE thank you to Tony Valerio for grilling chicken and smoking pork for everyone to enjoy. We were also fortunate to have our drinks refilled and tables cleared by Altus High School's Interact Club, thanks to Kathy Gover.

I hope we all have the chance to come together for this wonderful event again!

Last Week's Program
Last week we were visited by Charity Martin, who spoke on behalf of the Oklahoma Cotton Council. Charity came with an invitation for everyone to attend the 2025 Denim Ball.

The Denim Ball is an annual fundraiser that was started in 2019 by Committee for the Advancement of Cotton (CAC). CAC is the PAC fund for the National Cotton Council. Last year, the CAC raised over $660,000, making it the second largest PAC fund in the country with disbursements of over $1.2M to both Republican and Democratic candidates. On top of the $1.2M, another $217,000 was raised at events like the Denim Ball.

The CAC works diligently with the Congress and the Administration to provide income support programs and risk management products that our cotton producers need. Strong financial support from the industry enables the NCC to champion for programs that deliver an annual average of $129M to Oklahoma cotton producers.

This year's Ball will be hosted at the First National Center in Oklahoma City. The event will kick off on Friday night with a cocktail hour, dinner on your own, and then a party at The Vault with live music, a live auction, and an open bar. Saturday, golfers will gather at Trosper Golf Course for the Bobby King Memorial Golf Tournament. The main event will be Saturday evening with dinner, both a live and silent auction, and the induction of the two newest members of the Oklahoma Cotton Hall of Fame. Charity says that anyone who wears cotton is invited to attend!

Please consider attending to support this great cause. The Denim Ball is a fantastic opportunity to network with industry leaders, enjoy some great food and entertainment, and contribute to the advancement of the cotton industry. Don't miss out on this fun and rewarding experience!

Last Week's Rotarian of the Day
Last week, our Rotarian of the Day was Krystal Martin. Krystal is a native Oklahoman, hailing from Hobart, but she and her husband, Dwayne, have been long-time residents of Altus. The couple have two sons and four grandchildren.

Krystal has owned several businesses here in town, she is currently the owner/operator of The Booterie on Main Street. Her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to the local community have made her a respected figure in Altus.

Rotary is made up of “people of action” and that is Krystal in a nutshell! She has been a member of the Altus Rotary for 8 years and is currently our past president. Her leadership and commitment to the club have been instrumental in driving positive change in our community.

Krystal has served on numerous boards and was an Honorary Commander at Altus Air Force Base. Krystal is always on the front lines, ready to serve her community in any capacity she can. She serves with a kind heart and a true love of the people in SW Oklahoma and beyond.  Her selflessness, compassion, and tireless efforts to make a difference in the lives of others are an inspiration to us all.
