Last Week's Program
Michael Shive from the City of Altus recently shared some exciting news about the Reimagine Project, 4 the Love of Play. This initiative aims to enhance the Imagination Station park, making it more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

During the week of March 4, 2024, there were 723 visits to Imagination Station. Annually, the park attracts around 6,000 unique visitors. However, the current setup is not accessible to everyone, particularly those who use wheelchairs.

The city has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Cunningham Recreation to build a Play 4 All, an all-inclusive playground within the Imagination Station footprint. This new playground will replace the old wooden equipment with state-of-the-art facilities.

There will be play areas designed for children of all ages. A dedicated area for adult fitness will be included. The current mulch will be replaced with a rubberized surface to ensure wheelchair access to the equipment. Currently the closest Play 4 All is in Wichita falls, Texas.

The total budget for the playground is just under $2 million. An additional $500,000 will be needed for fencing, lighting, cameras, and restroom renovations. Funding will come from grants, community support, and fundraisers, all managed through the Altus Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.

The completion of the project will depend on how quickly the necessary funds are raised. Michael reassured the community that original donors who purchased fence slats will see their contributions preserved, and the time capsule will remain intact.

Michael says that the Play 4 All is a fantastic opportunity for the City of Altus to create a more inclusive and accessible park for everyone. With community support and funding, this project can transform Imagination Station into a place where all visitors can enjoy and play together.

Last Week's Rotarian of the Day
This week, we shine the spotlight on Dr. Chad Wiginton, a familiar face in Altus. As a native of the area, Chad is well-known and respected in various community circles.
Chad lives in Altus with his wife, Ericka, and their two children, Kade and Krosby. His commitment to the community is evident in his active participation in local events and organizations.

Chad serves as the president of Western Oklahoma State College. His journey with the college began early; he attended classes there as a concurrent student while still in high school.

Chad is a proud graduate of Western and was involved in numerous activities, from choir to being crowned Homecoming King. After pursuing his degree and spending some time in Nashville, he returned to his roots and took on various roles at the college, including Alumni Specialist and Dean of Student Services.

If you don’t see Chad on campus, you might find him at his church, volunteering at various community events, or offering his sound advice on any of the many boards he sits on.

Chad has been a dedicated member of the Rotary Club since 2016, where he has taken on several roles, including a fantastic MC for the annual Turtle Races. Our motto, "Service Above Self," truly reflects his character. No matter how busy he is, Chad is always ready to lend a helping hand.
